REVIEW by Lorna: The Accidental Assassin (The Assassins #1) by Nichole Chase (@NicholeChase , @Mollykatie112)

ACCIDENTAL ASSASSINFrom the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Nichole Chase, comes THE ACCIDENTAL ASSASSIN.

Ava McKenzie is a creature of habit. Life is passing her by and she has nothing to show for it. She’s had the same job since she started college, she orders the same dish every time she goes to her favorite restaurant, and only reads books from authors she knows. There is nothing new or surprising in her life… until her best friend marries a man from London. When her newlywed friend asks her to house-sit while she honeymoons, Ava jumps at the chance. She thinks this could be the very thing she needs to shake up her life. Ava throws herself head first into her new lifestyle; she wants to try everything, go everywhere, and never get stuck in a rut again. Of course, offing a man in a car garage hadn’t been one of the things on her list to try.

Owen Walker spends every day in a new place with a new case. As one of the most renowned assassins in the world, he has his choice of marks–and he’s never failed in a mission. When a new hit takes him back to his hometown, he looks forward to spending time somewhere familiar. What he isn’t expecting is to help an attractive, confused American woman find out how she’s ended up on a hit man’s list.

As Ava and Owen dodge bullets, will they be able to escape their undeniable attraction to each other? Or will all of that chemistry blow up in a shower of hot and dangerous sparks?

To say this is not the usual type of book I normally read is an understatement. If I hadn’t read a wonderful review of it on one of the blogs I follow, I never would have attempted it. But attempt I did, and ended up completely enjoying the whole thing.

Ava is an American woman on her own in London for the first time. She is house-sitting for her best friend, who is off on her honeymoon for a month. She’s not real happy with her life so she is trying all the things she wanted to do while in London. Touristy things but still, it’s new. After about a week on her own, she gets a call about a job and jumps at the chance. She never should have left the apartment that morning, but then she would have never had the time of her life either. Or met the man of her dreams-even if he is an assassin. Owen is an assassin that only takes out the dregs of humanity-the pedophiles, the sex slave operators-that sort. In the middle of his plan to take out a sex slave operator. Ava gets right into the middle of everything-complete with a shoot out and a dead body. It’s not long before he realizes that someone is trying to kill her. But why? They go on the run together to figure it all out.

What follows is not only a story filled with life and death moments, but sweet moments of romance, as well. Ava has to deal with falling in love with an assassin, while Owen has to deal with thinking he is not good enough for her. The story jumps from London, to Oxford, and on to Scotland-then ends in Paris. Along the way, a female assassin named Mavis, and her sixteen year old nephew, Kenny, a computer geek, end up coming along for the ride, and to help. Even though it’s a scary topic-being chased by gun toting goons all over England isn’t fun, I had a lot of fun with this read and laughed often. Ava is totally inept in the situation she is in, but really goes with it. Of course she is upset, but falling in love with the totally hot Owen, helps immensely.

As soon as I finished this, I immediately looked for book 2, and it’s not released yet. I will definitely be stalking the authors Amazon page for when the next one comes out, as I can’t wait to see what’s next for Ava and Owen.

I would recommend this to adult romance fans. Of course, if you can’t get past the heroine falling for an assassin, then this book isn’t for you. I chose to look beyond that, and just have a good time.

About Nichole Chase

618COMXUJML._UX250_Nichole Chase is a daydreamer. No, really, just ask any of the math teachers that had the misfortune of seeing her name appear on their class schedule.
For years she has had story lines and characters begging for attention, but she resolutely pushed them aside to focus on more normal (read, boring) jobs.

Well, no longer! She is currently heeding the voices in her head and frantically writing their stories. Ms. Chase is the author of the Dark Betrayal Trilogy and the upcoming novel, Flukes.

Nichole resides in South Georgia with her husband, energetic daughter, super-hero dog, tortoise, and two cats. When not devouring novels by the dozens, you may find her writing, painting, crafting, or chasing her daughter around the house while making monster noises.
