Author Samantha Towle and great romance go hand in hand, and this book was no different. It was a one day read for me, because I literally could not put it down.
Andressa(Andi) lost her beloved father at age ten, when he crashed his race car. He was the number one driver in the world at the time, and Andi’s hero. Because of this, she vows to never get involved with racecar drivers due to not wanting to lose them to the same fate. The fact that she becomes an extremely skilled racecar mechanic doesn’t help this vow. When she goes to work for Carrick’s team. Carrick is pretty much the best driver in the world, and a famous womanizer. When the two meet, Andi knows her vow is not going to be easy to honor.
Andi is driven by her love of cars, and of course by her love of the sport that her father loved and excelled at. However, she tells no one who her father is, so that she can get her jobs on her own merit. When her father died, her model mother took her back to her home country of Brazil to live. Coming back to England fourteen years later, Andi’s life is full of sad memories. Carrick has never been in love; his mother left him with his father when he was two years old, so he never had a good role model. When he meets Andi, he’s completely smitten. Andi just thinks he just wants her for a one night stand Those two are my favorite characters in this read, but there were also lots of others to enjoy as well. Petra, who also works for Carrick, was a fun character, and Andi’s roommate on the tour. She becomes the best girlfriend that Andi has never had before, and Andi’s sounding board for all things Carrick. Of course, other members of the racing team are featured as well.
I loved the romance and the chemistry between Andi and Carrick. It was steamy without being erotica, but there is a good friendship established first-unheard of with Carrick and anyone else. So when the first kiss happens, the reader is more than ready for it.This made the read so much better then books where sexual scenes take over in place of story. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of sex scenes, but not to the detriment of the wonderful romance and story.
On another note, who knew racing was popular in places like Kuala Lumpur and China? This book did take place all over the world, and I really had no idea that the racing circuit takes place in some of the places featured.Pretty interesting and added to the story with all the different settings.
I loved this book and highly recommend it, and all this author’s works, to adult romance readers. This was truly a book I almost didn’t want to finish-it was just that good.
