RELEASE DAY REVIEW by Lorna: Silence of the Wolf (Heart of the Wolf #13) by Terry Spear (@TerrySpear, @Mollykatie112)

Life For the Silver Pack Just Got Wilder…

Elizabeth Wildwood has been a loner all her life, ostracized because of her “mixed” half-wolf, half-coyote blood. When she ventures into gray wolf territory on a dangerous quest of her own and his thrown together with the sexiest shifter she’s ever met she begins to wish for the first time that she could be part of a family.

When this unusual shifter female comes into his pack’s territory, it’s Tom Silver’s job to protect her—if only she would let him.

This is the first book by Terry Spear that I have read. So when I realized it was book 13 of a series, I was really hesitant to read it. In this case, I am happy to say I didn’t have a single problem. Just enough back story made for a smooth, easy read for me.

Elizabeth is a wolf/coyote shifter in a world where mixed heritage is not generally accepted in the wolf world. After her parents are murdered, she leaves her home and becomes a lone wolf. Years of being considered different has taken its toll on her. When a wolf friend of hers finds the evidence she needs to prove who killed her parents, she goes to a ski resort to meet him. She realizes really quickly that the town is a wolf town and expects to be treated horribly. She couldn’t have been more wrong. She meets Tom, the brother to the alpha in charge of the town and pretty quickly falls for him. Tom is a total alpha male( a nice one) and recognizes that he wants Elizabeth for his mate almost immediately.Of course it can’t be that easy!

What I liked about this book:
I enjoyed the sweet love story between Tom and Elizabeth. Elizabeth spends a lot of time waiting for the other shoe to drop. She just can’t believe that Tom, as a full wolf, would have anything to do with her. Add to that, the way the entire Silver Town pack treat her like she is part of their pack almost from the start, and Elizabeth is totally confused. Other then her parents, no one has ever treated her as an equal.

The world building of life in the pack was pretty well imagined also. I wondered if the discrimination Elizabeth experiences, could apply to the real world as well. Kind of an interesting concept, I thought.

Most of the characters were well written and you can tell that a lot of them have already had their own book. So for people that read this series, I am sure you will enjoy catching up with characters you already know and care about. Not only are they wolf shifters, but they are also good people. And the villains were cruel and devious characters, as all good villains usually are.

What I didn’t like about this book:
In a word? Coincidence. A coincidence that was just crazy to be exact. When an author uses a coincidence that just really would never happen, it drives me crazy. And when it happens in this story, it kind of made me a bit mad at first. I didn’t throw my Kindle or anything but I totally wanted to! Since it is the catalyst for what happens in the whole second part of book, I just had to go with it, even if I was not happy about it. It just seemed like there could be a better way to get to where the author wanted the story to go and instead it was just really out there.

I also would have liked to have seen more of the main villain to get a better picture of him. You understand his motivations but just don’t see enough of him to get any feel for him. Maybe a couple of chapters from his point of view, even if the reader doesn’t know for sure who he is, would have added to the mystery of the story.

Who would I recommend this book to:
Anybody that enjoys paranormal romance, and shifter romance in particular would probably enjoy this book. There is a mystery involved and some action for those that like that in a book as well. It is an adult read with plenty of pretty explicit sexual situations so I don’t recommend it for young adults.

All in all, after I got past the coincidence, I did enjoy the story. I received the book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest and fair review.
