REVIEW by Lorna: Nightfall by Anne Stuart – Released 10/11/2013 (@Mollykatie112)

This is my fate . . . to die for unspeakable crimes. All I ask is that a stranger give herself to me and to my secrets.

Richard Tiernan has been sentenced to death. With an ulterior motive and a heart full of dark truths, he agrees to tell all to an ailing writer whose greed and ambition are so strong that he will even give his own daughter to Richard in return for one last Pulitzer-winning story.

I want Cassidy Roarke. I need her. But she has to prove she’s worthy. That she can be trusted.

Cassidy’s spent her life struggling to earn her father’s respect and love. Now his health is failing, and her feelings for him are even more complex. Loyalty is a sacrifice. Daughters can be broken by their fathers. She has to help when he calls. He’s bailed Richard Tiernan out of prison just long enough to coax the shocking facts out of him. What happened that night? What did Tiernan really do to his family?

Her father will sell his soul to the Devil before he dies. So be it.

Richard Tiernan may take them both to Hell.

Anne Stuart is the master at writing dark, sensual romances, at least that’s my opinion. I have been reading her books for years and getting a new book by her is a treat for me. I received this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Richard Tiernan has been convicted of killing his wife and two children. He is out on bail during his appeal and is living with a famous writer and his wife. The writer’s daughter comes to stay and to help her father with the book he is writing about Richard’s case. Cassidy Roarke is not under any illusions about her father Sean and his extreme selfishness, although unbeknownst to her, Sean has promised his daughter to Richard in exchange for his story-and not in a marriage way.

The chemistry between Richard and Cassidy is off the charts. The reader is totally in the dark about what Richard’s intentions are towards Cassidy. This adds more intensity to the mystery about Richard and if he is guilty or innocent. Ms. Stuart does not write cookie cutter characters. Her characters are flawed and very real. In this case, they are vulnerable and even dangerous. She also knows how to write a good love scene. I mean a really good one!

I can’t begin to stress enough how dark and atmospheric this mystery is. I think it would make for an excellent movie, because it certainly is an excellent book. Cassidy falling for Richard even though he is a convicted murderer was a really different premise. And I have to say it totally worked. I sat up and read this all night last night. I literally could not put it down because I HAD to know what was going to happen. If you read this, make sure you have a lot of free time to read it because it is so well written and and it is a major page turner.I don’t want to ruin this for the reader so I won’t tell any more of the story-it’s supposed to be a mystery for a reason, after all.

If you are a fan of a great mystery and a even better romance, I highly recommend this and rated it 5 stars.
