INDIE AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Kyra Gregory (@kyra_lyrical)

Kyra Gregory

Where are you from?

I was born and raised on the tiny island of Malta in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.

How long have you been writing?

I hardly remember a time in my life when I wasn’t writing and family says the same about me. I’ve been writing novel-length stories for about ten years now, starting with shorter stories, lyrics and fanfiction about twelve years ago.

What’s your genre of choice for writing?

I find it truly difficult sticking to one genre for a long period of time and have been known to dabble in a few different ones all at the same time. My greatest priority is telling an interesting and moving story and the vessel for that can be anything from slice-of-life to fantasy, to romance, to historical fiction or to mysteries. I would say that the romance genre is what ties my body of work together.

What’s your genre of choice for reading?

I enjoy reading something different to what I’m used to, but similar to the things I write. Something moving and thought-provoking. Most recently, besides novels, I truly enjoy reading manga.

Tell us all about you and your writing!!

I got into self-publishing in June 2012 when I wanted to take on a new project while juggling my hectic school life. I had begun writing at a young age in order to make a world for myself in which I could escape to and to express things that I couldn’t express easily back then. Twelve years later things haven’t changed much and I want to continue writing in order to make my place in the world.

Any new releases that we should be watching for?

My latest novel, Secrets Clad in Light, comes out on 10th September 2012 and is a romance-mystery set in 19th Century London. In it Henry is faced with many decisions as he struggles to care for his dying lover and tries to accept a young stranger’s advice.
