Hi all, my name is Dolly (yep for real).  I’m a wife, mother and disabled Veteran.  I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t reading something.  I have no secret desire to be a writer (they are way too talented).  I’m just an avid reader.  At one time or another, I’ve tried to read from all the different genres.  The genre I read for the longest of all was historical romance.  I’m talking Bertrice Small, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Johanna Lindsey, Judith McNaught, Julie Garwood, Brenda Joyce, and Catherine Coulter.  I still read them occasionally but have spread my wings a bit.  I’m not a big horror or hard core science fiction fan but I have tried them.  I really like contemporary fiction, urban fantasy, some thrillers, mysteries, romances, and paranormal.  I’m a history junkie too.  I could get lost for days on Wikipedia.  So reading is my passion after my family.

Some of the first grown up books I remember reading were “The Godfather”, “Rebecca”, and “The Stand”.  I think I liked the historical romances because after all the angst there was always a happy ending.  I spent 20 years in the Air Force as did my hubby.  He was always on weird shifts or deployed so I got lost in my books when the kids were in bed.  When we served on Okinawa, I became more and more addicted to books.  Hey, it’s a small island and you can only sight see so much and during the typhoons, books were company.

There is no way I would try to pick a favorite author because they are all so different.  Here are some of the authors I read on a regular basis:  J. D. Robb, Iris Johansen, Jayne Ann Krentz (aka, Jayne Castle and Amanda Quick), Thomas Perry, Vince Flynn, Karen Robards, Ilona Andrews, Catherine Coulter and Cat Adams.  Much to my boys disgust, I’ve never read any of the Harry Potter, and to their joy none of The Twilight Series.  I’ve tried several times to read some of the young adult books but maybe because I’m “older”, I can’t relate to the books at all.

I hoarded my books for a long time (lol).  Book cases everywhere and book stacks everywhere.  During a small housing renovation, I donated many of my books and kept the ones I love to reread (which really were too many).   Out of self defense, my hubby bought me a Kindle in 2010 and he got me a Kindle Fire for this Christmas (2011).  I will always buy the hard cover copies of my favorites and even some paperbacks but am trying to get the paperbacks on Kindle when I can.   I’ve also begun to read many of the self published works available.  I absolutely love to talk about books and what I liked and yeah, even what I didn’t.  I hope you all don’t mind me sharing my OPINION.  Not everybody likes the same types of books, so I’m flexible.

Happy reading to all of you!!
