REVIEW by Ginny: Secret Storm by Amelia James (@trashywriter , @puretextuality , @ginnylurcock )

…“I want to let you in, Jack, but I…. Oh hell, I just want you. I know you’re not what I need, but I don’t care. Take me to bed now and we’ll sort the rest out later.”…

The last thing Sara Jensen needs is another risky relationship. She wants Jack, but she’s been hurt too many times to trust him, even though he’s more than a friend. Jack won’t trust her, and that hurts more than her ex’s betrayal.

Jack Wheeler wants Sara. His long-denied lust burns barely contained. But a dangerous secret comes back to haunt him, a secret so horrible he can’t trust anyone with it, not even the woman he desires more than anything.

For the first time since they met, they’re both available, but the timing couldn’t be worse. Sara’s not too eager to trust a man again, and Jack refuses to reveal his secret. Getting involved right now is complicated, but Sara and Jack have waited long enough. Neither one of them can control their desires.

But there’s a storm approaching, and as hard as she tries, Sara can’t run away from Jack’s past. Jack won’t accept her help, and Sara doesn’t know how long she can wait for him to realize that he needs her.

I really do not understand when people do not use twitter because so often these days I select a book based on a tweet from a friend and/or the author being a hilarious tweeter. Witness exhibit A:

Help @TrashyWriter rebuild her lost #Amazon reviews–> Starting over is a pain http://wp.me/p1yTxQ-qA

You had me at “@TrashyWriter” So I went to the site and read her plight about putting up a new and improved edition, just so that she could lose all her reviews. I hit her up for a copy so I could help.

Okay, I wanted a free smutty contemporary. Sue me.

AMFG HOW IS IT THAT THIS BOOK WAS EXACTLY WHAT I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR WHEN I READ THE ATROCIOUS BOOK THE DAY BEFORE. EXACTLY WHAT I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR.

EXACTLY WHAT I HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR! (I wish there was super caps for that)

(my husband just pointed out that all my caps might be confusing here, I mean it was super duper a plus awesome, please read on to find out why.)

After reading that truly awful indie that gives all other indies a bad name, I will admit I thought reviewing and reading might be ruined for me. I adore indies, but now that I’ve had to look at things with a more critical eye I was terrified that I would find fault in everything. No matter how hard I tried though, I couldn’t find a single fault in “Secret Storm.” Not one. And I looked really hard. Every so often I would shout in triumph “A-HA! I HAVE YOU NOW” only to realize that she closed my so-called loophole artfully a page later. Or, even more embarrassing, that I’d just read the damn paragraph wrong.

“Secret Storm” is the beautiful and moving story of two people who have to overcome their demons while battling their own lust for each other. Do they just give into the temptation that they’ve been avoiding for three years? Or do they actually fight for something real and lasting? Can’t they just do both?

I cannot stress enough how fantabulous this book was. The prose… THE PROSE! (again, I need super caps) In addition, the characters did not waffle, they did not flip flop. Their actions never seemed forced just so that the plot moved forward. They were real. They were believable. They were stinking awesome. This is now the bar that I measure all contemporary romance by.

5 Stars

Thank you, Amelia James, for the copy of your book and thank you Kendall Grey for retweeting.
