REVIEW by Dolly: Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels #3) by Ilona Andrews (@ilona_andrews , @GordonSm3 , @Fidget78 )

Drafted to work for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, mercenary Kate Daniels has more paranormal problems these days than she knows what to do with. And in Atlanta, where magic comes and goes like the tide, that’s saying a lot.

But when Kate’s werewolf friend Derek is discovered nearly dead, she must confront her greatest challenge yet. As her investigation leads her to the Midnight Games- an invitation only, no-holds-barred, ultimate preternatural fighting tournament- she and Curran, the Beast Lord, uncover a dark plot that may forever alter the face of Atlanta’s shapeshifting community.

Oh my, oh my!!

Occasionally I will read a book and be left speechless (I know that’s hard to believe, but it’s true). Magic Strikes is one of those books. I’m sure my fellow reviewer, Ginny, (who is never at a loss for words), could do this review better justice, but I’ll plug along. Hopefully Ginny will be able to review Magic Strikes soon. I know this is her favorite book in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 books in the Kate Daniels Series but this one is just a masterpiece. I loved it the first time around and this time, I think it’s one of my very favorites of all time. The growth of all the characters is mind boggling, but especially Kate. She starts out so all alone in the first novel, Magic Bites; but by Magic Strikes she has friends and interactions and true feelings for some of those around her. The feelings range from attraction, friendship, and protective to dislike, aggravation, and hate. Kate doesn’t trust anybody in the first book of the series and that’s only changed a little. She really can’t afford to trust anyone completely and live but, she’s opening up more and more.

Magic Strikes is so well written that I actually thought I was there in Atlanta with Kate and the surrounding cast. Of course, you can’t talk about Kate unless you talk about Curran. Curran is my favorite of all alphas in all the novels I’ve read. He’s tough, mean, fair, sexy, and though he doesn’t want you to know it, caring. However, I would NOT want to piss him off. That is some of the basis of this story. Some of Curran’s inner circle are doing things they know are going to make Curran’s temper shoot through the roof with Kate being one of them. Curran in a temper is awesome, to say the least. We also learn some interesting facts about Kate. I think that is one of the things I enjoy about this series. Kate is a bit of an enigma. We’re not really sure where here character is going and what’s going to develop along the way.

Magic Strikes has it all. There’s tension, humor, sadness, anger, mystery, confrontation, and worry. Not to mention the fantastic fight scenes. Did I miss anything? If I did, don’t be alarmed, it’s in there. Ilona and Gordon Andrews have come so far, so quickly. The growth in their writing is unimaginable in this third novel. Talented beyond belief. The story flows so smoothly and effortlessly, it’s hard to understand that the story is make believe. The descriptions, character growth and plot line is a work of pure writing art. (Can you tell, I love this series and the talent of the Andrews?)

As usual, when I had determined my rating for Magic Strikes, I went through and read some of the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon. I can’t counter any of 3 Star or below remarks because it seems to me, it’s just a matter of what you like to read and how you perceive it. Plus with all the angst currently going on about books lovers and haters, I didn’t want to go there. This only thing I can say is look at my Goodreads page. If you have similar tastes in books to me, you will love this book. Again, it’s all a matter of the readers’ opinion.

So, you’re not gonna believe this because it is something I very rarely do…..

My Rating: 5 Stars
