REVIEW by Alicia: Wired by Douglas E Richards (@mamaxsix)

Kira Miller is a brilliant genetic engineer who discovers how to temporarily achieve savant-like capabilities in all areas of thought and creativity. But what if this transcendent level of intelligence brings with it a ruthless megalomania?

David Desh left the special forces after his team was brutally butchered in Iran. Now he has been reactivated for one last mission: find Kira Miller, the enigmatic genius behind a bioterror plot that threatens millions. But when Desh learns that the bioterror plot is just the tip of the iceberg, he is thrust into a byzantine maze of deception and intrigue, and he becomes a key player in a deadly game he can’t begin to understand. A game that is certain to have a dramatic impact on the future course of human history. . .

This was an interesting trip! First off, I said yes to reading this w/o having any idea what it was about. I kinda liked that- didn’t give me any preconceived notions. Not until after I finished it, did I go and read the cover. Backwards much?

This is a fascinating story on people, the human brain what it’s really capable of, and the perspective of is there a God.  We’re introduced to Kira- a super you can’t even fathom how brilliant she is gal- who is running for her life, well because she has killed a few people and has a magic pill that will enhance your brain.  Then we meet Desh. Seriously Mr. Perfect. War hero, nice guy, spot on… you could eat off his record etc.  He’s been assigned to track down Kira and bring her in.  (hope this isn’t sound too familiar….)

There are a lot of WOW moments, that I can’t really talk about because, well they wouldn’t be wow.  I thoroughly enjoyed the story. Though some parts I found myself skimming because the brain enhancing talk was just way too over my head.  And I think the epilogue should have been the real ending. The ending was terrible. I felt like I just read the entire book, kinda had things worked out, to have the book do a complete weirdo 180 on me and deliver me to um…. if only I had taken one of those little gel caps I would have figured it out!

The story does keep you engaged, and the characters are pretty great.  I can’t say any more without giving anything away. Sorry!

As far as ratings…. this is ADULT reading.  Let’s just say if the book started out how it ended I wouldn’t have finished reading it. I’m not a fan of the fbomb.  In the beginning it was used maybe every three chapters or so (and only by the bad guys hee, hee) but towards the end it was dropped like every other page for awhile. grrrr.

I’m eager to start the sequel Amped.

All in all I’m giving it 4 stars! Engaging, action packed and it keeps you guessing.
